A Little Trip Planner, Made With You in Mind

All smiles, guests ride a tour bus

There's a particular kind of joy in a field trip. The early-morning bus, the day mapped out for you, the small thrill of going somewhere together. We've always loved that the Schoolhouse carries a little of that spirit — the 1891 bell cupola style, the tall prairie windows, Matilda waiting just outside.

So when our guests began asking what to see and do while they're here, we wanted to answer in a way that felt like us. Not a stack of brochures. Something gentler, and a little magical.

We're so glad to share it with you: Plan Your Field Trip, a trip planner built right into our website, just for our favorite people to enjoy.

It started with a simple wish — that no one would spend their precious days here squinting at maps and guessing at hours. This pocket of Miami County is full of quiet wonders, and they're scattered across small towns and country roads. We wanted to gather them in one warm place and hand them to you, already sorted.

Here's the heart of it. You tell the planner your arrival and departure dates. You wander through our curated lists — the coffee shops and comfort kitchens, the award-winning wineries, the lakes and trails, the antique stores and the fiber-arts nook, the big-cat conservatory and the stargazing observatory — and you tap a little + on anything that makes you smile. Then the planner does the quiet work behind the scenes: it builds you day-by-day plans, grouping nearby stops together, slipping in coffee and lunch and dinner, and telling you when to arrive, how long to linger, and how far it is to the next stop.

It thinks about the things that are easy to forget. It knows that the pools are a summer thing and the orchard is a fall thing. It knows which festivals land on your exact weekend. It knows the wineries serve small plates, so it won't push you toward a restaurant if you'd rather graze. And if a guided wine tour sounds like just the thing, it can set aside an afternoon — both of our local outfits pick you up and drop you off at our door.

Don't love a suggestion? Tap it away, and the day quietly re-times itself around what's left. It's your day. We're just here to help you fill it.

And then, of course, there's the part that needs no planning at all: coming home. The fire ring and the hot tub. The 1940s Ocean Wave merry-go-round. The swinging day bed under a sky full of stars and, on summer nights, fireflies. The whole reason we restored this place was to make a little room for that kind of slowness — for joy, and for the quiet reminder that simple things still matter.

So whether you're staying with us soon or simply dreaming of it, we'd love for you to wander in and start planning.
