Welcome Back to The Library
It’s been quiet here for a while.
Not because nothing has been happening—but because the kind of work that happens on the prairie doesn’t always lend itself to quick updates. Some things take time to take shape. Some stories are better told once they’ve settled in.
Over the past year, most of that quiet work has been happening just beyond the Schoolhouse.
Her name is Matilda.
She’s a 1978 Crown Supercoach, built for long days on the road and decades of steady service in a California school district. After forty years, she was retired and sold at auction—still strong, still carrying more life in her than most would expect.
The next chapter didn’t happen quickly. Her Detroit Diesel engine was carefully restored. Her structure was preserved. And somewhere along the way, she began to change—not just from bus to dwelling, but from something functional into something thoughtful.
We brought her home to the prairie in October of 2025.
Through the winter, she waited while the final details were finished. Small refinements. Careful decisions. The kind of work that doesn’t draw attention to itself, but makes all the difference once it’s done.
In the spring of 2026, she opened her doors.
Now, she sits just a short walk from the Schoolhouse—settled into her place here as if she’s always belonged. The rhythm is different for her these days. Fewer miles. More stillness. A steady stream of new faces instead of the same route, day after day.
She’s taken to it well.
The Library will stay a quiet place. Not for frequent updates, but for the stories that feel worth keeping. The ones that don’t need to be rushed.
We’re glad you’re here.
